Q1 — You will hear two friends talking about a new cafe.
M: Have you been to that new cafe in town?
F: Yes, I went yesterday. I wanted to try their famous ice cream, but they'd sold out. So I just had a slice of chocolate cake instead. It was delicious. I didn't even have room for a sandwich!
Q2 — You will hear a boy talking to his mother about his football shirt.
M: Mum, where's my football shirt? I need it for the match this afternoon.
F: I washed it yesterday. I think it's still outside on the washing line.
M: No, I looked there. Oh, wait, I can see it. It's over a chair in the kitchen. I'll go and get it.
Q3 — You will hear a woman talking to her friend about her holiday.
M: How was your trip to Spain? Did you fly?
F: We were going to, but the flights were so expensive. We thought about taking the train, but in the end, we decided to drive. It took two days, but it was much cheaper, and we had the car while we were there.
Q4 — You will hear a girl talking about her weekend.
M: Did you go to the cinema on Saturday?
F: No, it was my brother's birthday. We were planning to have a picnic in the park, but it rained all day. So we just stayed in and watched a film on TV. It was quite nice, actually.
Q5 — You will hear a boy asking about a book.
M: Excuse me, do you have any books about space? I need one for my science project.
F: Let me check. We have one on the history of space travel, and another about the planets. Oh, wait, there's also a great one with lots of photos of the stars.
M: The one about the planets sounds perfect. I'll take that one, please.
Right, listen carefully everyone. I want to give you some information about our school trip next week. As you know, we're going to the Science Museum. The trip is on Thursday. Please don't forget, because some of you thought it was on Friday.
Now, we need to leave school quite early. The bus will be outside at 8.15, so please make sure you arrive at school by 8 o'clock. We can't wait for anyone who is late.
When we get to the museum, we're going to see a special exhibition about robots. It's supposed to be really interesting. We'll have lunch at 12.30. You need to bring a packed lunch with you, but you can buy a drink in the cafe. Don't bring too much money, though – no more than £5, please.
Finally, if your parents need to contact us on the day, they should call Mr Smith. His number is 07700 900 452. OK, any questions?
ROBERT: Hi Laura. Have you been to the new sports centre yet?
LAURA: Yes, Robert. I went last Saturday. It's really good.
ROBERT: What did you do there? Did you go swimming?
LAURA: I wanted to, but the pool was full. So I played tennis instead. I'm going to try the climbing wall next week.
ROBERT: I want to join. How much does it cost?
LAURA: Well, it's usually £30 a month, but for students, it's only £20. It's cheaper if you pay for a whole year, which is £200.
ROBERT: That's not bad. What time does it close?
LAURA: It's open until 10 pm on weekdays, but it closes at 8 pm on Saturdays and 6 pm on Sundays.
ROBERT: OK. And how do you get there?
LAURA: I took the bus. The number 42 stops right outside. You can cycle, but there isn't anywhere to lock your bike safely.
ROBERT: Oh, I'll probably take the bus then. Did you buy anything in the café?
LAURA: Yes, I had a burger. It was quite expensive, though. Next time, I think I'll just get a sandwich. They looked much nicer.
ROBERT: Thanks, Laura. I think I'll go and have a look tomorrow.
Q16 — You will hear a boy talking to his friend about his new phone.
M: Look at my new phone. I got it for my birthday.
F: Oh, it's really nice. Is the camera good?
M: It takes amazing photos. The only problem is the battery. It runs out really quickly, so I have to charge it every day. I dropped it yesterday, but luckily the screen didn't break.
Q17 — You will hear a woman talking on the radio about a competition.
F: And now for our weekly competition. This week, you can win a fantastic holiday for two in Italy. All you have to do is answer three simple questions. Don't phone us, just send your answers by email before Friday. Good luck!
Q18 — You will hear a boy talking about a film.
M: I went to see that new science fiction film last night. The special effects were incredible, and the actors were great. But to be honest, I didn't really understand what was going on. The story was so confusing. I wouldn't watch it again.
Q19 — You will hear a girl asking for directions.
F: Excuse me, can you tell me the way to the library, please?
M: Yes, of course. Go straight on, past the bank, and take the second road on the right. The library is on your left, next to the post office. You can't miss it.
F: Thank you.
Q20 — You will hear two friends talking about a concert.
M: Did you enjoy the concert last night?
F: Yes, the band was brilliant. The singer was amazing. I just wish we'd got there a bit earlier. We were so far at the back, I couldn't see the stage properly. But the music was great.
M: Hi Sarah. I heard you've started a new hobby.
F: Yes, I'm doing a photography course. It's really fun.
M: Does anyone else in your family have a hobby?
F: Oh yes, we all do something. My brother, David, is in a rock band. He plays the guitar. He's really good.
M: What about your sister, Emma?
F: She loves being outdoors. She spends hours in the garden, growing vegetables and flowers. It's hard work, but she enjoys it.
M: And your parents?
F: Well, my dad is quite creative. He makes beautiful wooden furniture. He made my bed, actually. And my mum... well, she likes making clothes. She made the dress I'm wearing now.
M: Wow, your family is very talented. What about your grandfather?
F: He's very active for his age. He goes cycling every weekend with his friends. He can go quite fast!
