Past Simple Regular Verbs

A1 Inglés · Lección 23

Talk about what you did yesterday!

We use the Past Simple to talk about finished actions in the past.

  • I watched TV.
  • She studied English.
  • We played football.

Most verbs form the past by adding -ed.

Base VerbPast Simple
walkwalked
workworked
playplayed

Sometimes we change the spelling before adding -ed:

  • Verbs ending in e add -d: live lived
  • Verbs ending in consonant + y change y to i + ed: study studied
  • One-syllable verbs ending in consonant-vowel-consonant double the last consonant: stop stopped

/ɪd/After t or dvisited, wanted, needed
