  • Was / Were for descriptions and states
  • Past Simple (Regular & Irregular)

Did = auxiliary for questions and negatives in Past Simple.

  • Question: Did you play football? (verb in base form!)
  • Negative: I didn't (did not) play football.

Correct: Did she go to school?
Wrong: Did she went to school?

Read Ems weekend:

On Saturday morning, I cleaned my apartment. In the afternoon, I watched a movie and ate pizza. On Sunday, I visited my friend Ana. We walked in the park and drank coffee. I was very happy!

Notice how the story is organized:

  • Time markers: On Saturday morning, In the afternoon, On Sunday
  • Past verbs: cleaned, watched, ate, visited, walked, drank
  • Feeling at the end: I was very happy!
On Saturday mornings, I clean my room.
Mornings should be morning (specific time). Clean should be cleaned (past tense).

Build a correct sentence about your weekend:

1. I goed to the park is correct.
2. We use did + base verb for questions.
3. Yesterday I didn't watched TV is correct.
4. Last weekend we were at the beach is OK.

Complete Ems story:

On Saturday, I cleaned my room.
Then I watched a movie.
On Sunday, I visited my grandmother.
We ate lunch together.

Think about your last weekend:

  • Saturday morning: What did you do?
  • Saturday afternoon/evening: Who did you see? What happened?
  • Sunday: Where did you go? How did you feel?
