Warm-up — Listening Habits & Challenges

Reflexiona con tu compañero sobre tus hábitos y dificultades al escuchar inglés.
1. What is hardest for you when listening to native English speakers?
Ejemplo: They speak very fast and join words together (connected speech).
2. Do you try to translate every single word into Spanish?
Ejemplo: Yes, but I lose the thread of the main conversation.

Context — Real-World Listening Situations

Los tres escenarios principales donde necesitarás escucha activa en inglés.

Check-in questions, room details, ordering food, bill requests.

Strategy — Predicting Content Before Listening

Antes de escuchar un audio, utiliza las pistas visuales y el contexto para anticipar vocabulario.
1. Lee el título y las preguntas
Te darán la situación exacta (hotel check-in, aeropuerto, restaurante).
2. Anticipa palabras clave
Si es un hotel: room, key, passport, breakfast, floor, night.
3. Anticipa tipo de datos
¿Buscas una hora (10:00), un precio (£20) o un nombre propios?
Regla: Nunca escuches "a ciegas". Dedica 30 segundos a leer las opciones primero.

Listening Task 1 — Hotel Check-in Dialogue

Lee la transcripción del diálogo entre un cliente y el recepcionista del hotel.
Receptionist: "Good afternoon. Welcome to Grand Central Hotel. How can I help you?"
Guest: "Hello. I have a reservation under the name of David Miller."
Receptionist: "Yes, Mr. Miller. A single room for 3 nights. Could I see your passport?"
Guest: "Here you go. Is breakfast included in the rate?"

Questions 1 — Check-in Comprehension

Responde a las preguntas de comprensión sobre el diálogo del hotel.
1. What is the guest's name?
2. How many nights is the reservation for?
3. What document does the receptionist request?

Answers 1 — Repaso de Respuestas

Verificación de respuestas y explicación del vocabulario clave.
1. David Miller
"reservation under the name of David Miller"
2. 3 nights
"A single room for 3 nights"

"Could I see your passport?"
Observación: La frase "under the name of..." significa a nombre de quien está hecha la reserva.

Strategy — Listening for Specific Details

Cómo capturar información concreta como números, horas y precios.
Números y Horas
Presta atención a teen vs ty (13 vs 30, 14 vs 40).
Precios y Monedas
Escucha el símbolo: pounds (£), euros (€), dollars ($).
Palabras de cambio
Ojo con "but", "however", "sorry": suelen rectificar el dato inicial.
Ejemplo: "It leaves at 4... sorry, at 4:30." La respuesta correcta siempre es la rectificación final.

Listening Task 2 — Airport Announcement

Lee la transcripción del aviso megafónico en el aeropuerto.
Announcement: "Attention passengers on British Airways flight BA402 to Madrid."
Details: Flight BA402 to Madrid.
Announcement: "Your boarding gate has been changed from Gate 8 to Gate 15B."
Details: New gate is 15B (changed from 8).

Questions 2 — Airport Comprehension

Responde a las preguntas de detalle del aviso del aeropuerto.
1. What is the flight destination?
2. What is the NEW boarding gate number?
3. Which airline is operating the flight?

Answers 2 — Repaso de Respuestas del Aeropuerto

Verificación de datos extraídos del aviso.
1. Destination: Madrid
"flight BA402 to Madrid"
2. New Gate: 15B
"changed from Gate 8 to Gate 15B"
3. Airline: British Airways
"passengers on British Airways flight"
Lección de escucha: Ignora el número de puerta inicial (8) y quédate con el dato corregido (15B).

Pronunciation — Connected Speech & Weak Forms

Por qué a veces nos cuesta entender a los nativos al hablar rápido.

Forma hablada (Connected)
"Whaddya do?" [wɒdʒə duː]
"Couldja help me?" [kʊdʒə help miː]
"Gonna..." [ɡənə]
Regla: Las palabras gramaticales secundarias (do, you, to, of, for) se reducen a vocales débiles /ə/ (schwa).

Common Mistakes — Trampas de Escucha

Tres errores típicos de hispanohablantes al escuchar inglés:
✗ Bloquearse en una palabra
✓ Sigue escuchando la frase completa sin detenerte.
✗ Confundir palabras similares
✓ Distingue ship/sheep, live/leave, 13/30 por el contexto.
✗ Traducir en paralelo
✓ Captura ideas e imágenes mentales en lugar de traducir palabra por palabra.
Recuerda: El contexto te dará el 80% del significado aunque no escuches cada fonema.
