Write an email of about 100 words in response to a given email, incorporating four specific notes.
Strategy for Part 1
In this part, you must read an email from a friend or colleague and reply to it using all four notes provided on the input email. This task is compulsory and you should aim for about 100 words.
- Include all four points: If you miss a point, you cannot get full marks. Underline or tick off the notes as you write.
- Tone and Register: Usually informal or semi-formal, depending on who you are writing to. Use appropriate greetings (e.g., Hi Sam,) and sign-offs (e.g., Best wishes,).
- Functions: You will often need to do things like agree, disagree, suggest, explain, or apologise. Make sure you use appropriate language for these functions.
- Structure: Organise your email clearly into paragraphs. Don't write one long block of text.
- Length: Stick to the ~100-word limit. Being concise and to the point is better than waffling.
Tip
Don't spend more than 20 minutes on this task. You need to leave 25 minutes for Part 2.
