Cap. 13
Verb + Infinitive Patterns
want to · decide to · make bare · tell someone to
Muchos verbos en inglés van seguidos de to + verbo en forma base. Estas combinaciones deben memorizarse — no hay regla gramatical general.
Quiero salir.
→
I want to leave.
Decidió quedarse.
→
He decided to stay.
Ella espera aprobar.
→
She hopes to pass.
Él consiguió terminar.
→

Ella se negó a responder.
→
She refused to answer.
Él aceptó ayudar.
→
He agreed to help.
¡Atención! No digas "I want that I leave". En inglés, estos verbos nunca usan una cláusula con "that". Siempre va el infinitivo con "to".
Estos verbos llevan un objeto directo (persona) antes del infinitivo con "to".
Ella me dijo que esperara.
→
She told me to wait.
Él le pidió que viniera.
→
He asked her to come.
Ella lo animó a postularse.
→
She encouraged him to apply.
Nos permitieron salir.
→
They allowed us to leave.
Él los obligó a admitirlo.
→
He forced them to admit it.
Quiero que entiendas.
→
I want you to understand.
¡Ojo! El verbo want puede usarse sin objeto (I want to go) o con objeto (I want you to go). En ambos casos, siempre lleva to + verbo.
Después de make (obligar) y let (permitir), el verbo siguiente va en forma base, sin "to".
Ella me hizo disculparme.
→
She made me apologise. (NO made me to apologise)
¿Puedes dejarme saber?
→
Can you let me know? (NO let me to know)
Ella me ayudó a llevar las bolsas.
→
She helped me (to) carry the bags. (ambas formas son correctas)
let vs allow: let + infinitivo sin "to" · allow + to + infinitivo:
Let her go / Allow her to go.
It is + adjetivo + to + verbo en forma base
Es fácil de entender.
→
It is easy to understand.

→
