Zero conditional: verdades generales

El zero conditional describe hechos científicos, verdades universales o resultados que siempre ocurren cuando se cumple la condición.

If + presente simple, + presente simple
Si calientas el agua a 100°C, hierve.
→
If you heat water to 100°C, it boils.
Si llueve, las calles se mojan.
→
If it rains, the streets get wet.
Si no duermo lo suficiente, me siento fatal.
→
If I don't sleep enough, I feel terrible.
"When" puede sustituir a "if" en el zero conditional porque el resultado es seguro: When you heat water, it boils.

First conditional: posibilidad real

El first conditional describe una posibilidad real en el futuro — algo que podría ocurrir realmente.

If + presente simple, + will + verbo base
Si llueve mañana, me quedaré en casa.
→
If it rains tomorrow, I will stay home.
Si no te das prisa, perderás el autobús.
→
If you don't hurry, you will miss the bus.
Si me ayudas, te ayudaré.
→
If you help me, I will help you.
Si vienes temprano, podemos tomar un café primero.
→
If you come early, we can have coffee first.

Orden de las cláusulas

Ambos órdenes son correctos — cambian las comas

Cláusula "if" primero → coma
If it rains, I will stay home.
If you study, you will pass.
Cláusula principal primero → sin coma
I will stay home if it rains.
You will pass if you study.

Zero vs First: la diferencia clave

Zero — siempre cierto
If you mix red and blue, you get purple.

En la cláusula "if" siempre va presente simple (NUNCA "will")

Nunca se usa "will" después de "if"
