Cap. 16

Future Forms (extended)

be about to · be due to · future perfect continuous

Future Forms (extended)

En este capítulo ampliamos las formas futuras más allá de will y going to. Aprenderás estructuras avanzadas como be about to, be due to y el future perfect continuous, todas comunes en exámenes Cambridge B2.

Objetivo
Dominar las formas futuras extendidas para expresar planes inmediatos, obligaciones programadas y acciones continuas completadas en el futuro.

Planes inmediatos y eventos programados

be about to · be due to

Be about to indica que algo ocurrirá muy pronto (en cuestión de minutos). Be due to se usa para eventos oficiales o programados, como vuelos, entregas o reuniones.

Estoy a punto de salir.
I'm about to leave.
El tren debe salir a las 10.
The train is due to leave at 10.
¡Cuidado! El vaso va a caer.
Watch out! The glass is about to fall!
Atención: No uses be about to con expresiones de tiempo futuro (in five minutes). Solo se refiere al momento inmediato.

Future Perfect Continuous

Acción continua completada antes de un momento futuro

will + have + been + verb-ing will have been studying
Marcadores comunes: for + duración · by the time · when

Este tiempo enfatiza la duración de una acción que estará en progreso hasta un momento específico en el futuro. Se usa menos que el future perfect simple, pero es clave en contextos formales.

By June, I'll have been working here for 10 years.
Énfasis en los 10 años de trabajo continuo
When you arrive, they'll have been discussing this for hours.
La discusión ya lleva horas cuando llegues
In 2030, scientists will have been researching climate change for 50 years.
Investigación continua desde 1980 hasta 2030
Importante: Los verbos estáticos (know, believe, understand) no usan forma continua. Usa will have known, no will have been knowing.
