Todays Goal:

Learn to say what didn't happen and ask questions about the past!

Quick Review

Before negatives and questions, remember:

SubjectAffirmative

Regular verbs: + -ed
Irregular verbs: memorize!

The Magic Word: DID

For negatives and questions in the past, we use DID or Didn't.

After did/didn't, always use the base verb (go, eat, play NOT went, ate, played)!

I didn't go to school.
I didn't went to school.

Negative Sentences

Subject + didn't + BASE VERB

Question Sentences

Did + subject + BASE VERB...?

Always Use the BASE VERB!

Did you went to the park?
Did you go to the park?
She didn't ate pizza.
She didn't eat pizza.

After did/didn't go, eat, play, see, do, have (NOT went, ate, played...)

Complete the Negatives

I didn't go to the party.
She didn't watch the movie.
We didn't eat dinner.
He didn't do his homework.

Complete the Questions

Did you see the cat?
Did she call you?
Did they play basketball?
Did he have breakfast?

Spot the Mistake!

Did you went to school?
After Did, use base verb: go, not went.
She didn't ate lunch.
After didn't, use base verb: eat, not ate.

True or False?

I didn't went to school. is correct.
After Did, we use the base verb.
Did you saw him? is correct.

Roleplay: Weekend Chat

A: Did you go out on Saturday?
B: No, I didn't. I stayed home.
A: Did you watch a movie?
B: Yes, I did! I watched Titanic.
A: Did you like it?
B: Yes, I did. It was great!
