Comparativos — revisão e nível B1

mais rápido, mais caro, muito melhor

Os comparativos comparam duas coisas. Adjetivos curtos: adj + -er than. Adjetivos longos: more + adj + than. No B1 adicionamos intensificadores e estruturas duplas.

Curto (1–2 síls.)

tall → taller than · cheap → cheaper than

Longo (3+ síls.)

expensive → more expensive than

Intensificadores

much / far / a lot taller · a little / slightly cheaper

Duplo comparativo

It is getting better and better. The more you read, the better.

Importante: "Than" é obrigatório quando há dois elementos: She is taller than him.

Superlativos

o mais alto, o melhor, o pior

Os superlativos expressam o extremo dentro de um grupo (3+ elementos). Usa-se the + adj + -est ou the most + adj.

Curto: the + est

tall → the tallest · fast → the fastest

Longo: the most

beautiful → the most beautiful

Irregulares

good → the best · bad → the worst · far → the furthest

The least

This is the least expensive option.

Importante: Sempre use the com superlativos. "She is tallest" (sem the) está errado.

Superlativo + Present Perfect

Padrão muito comum em B1

Depois de um superlativo, é comum usar the + superlativo + I have ever + particípio para falar de experiências de vida.

Negativo

That was the worst meal I have ever had.

Importante: Após superlativos, use that (não "which"): the best film that I have ever seen.

Regras de ortografia

Termina em -e

nice → nicer / the nicest · large → larger / the largest

CVC: dobra consoante

big → bigger / the biggest · hot → hotter / the hottest

Consoante + y → ier

happy → happier / the happiest · early → earlier / the earliest

2 sílabas -ow/-er/-le

narrow → narrower · clever → cleverer

Erros comuns

Confusões frequentes para falantes de português:

She is most tall in the class.

→

She is the tallest in the class.

Adjetivo curto → the + -est (sempre com "the").

It is the most best film.

→

It is the best film.

"Best" já é superlativo — não use "most".

This is more cheap than that.

→

This is cheaper than that.

Adjetivo curto → -er (não "more").

The more I study, the more I am better.

→

The more I study, the better I get.
