Too and Enough

Too e Enough — o problema da quantidade

Too = mais do que o necessário/desejado (problema). Enough = quantidade suficiente. Estas palavras têm posições fixas na frase.

The soup is too hot. (problema — muito quente)

I'm not tall enough to reach the shelf. (falta quantidade)

There isn't enough milk for coffee. (falta quantidade)

He's too young to drive. (muito jovem para...)

Too + adjective/adverb

Too vem ANTES do adjetivo ou advérbio. Estrutura: too + adj/adv (+ to + infinitivo).

It's too cold to swim.

She spoke too quickly for me to understand.

This box is too heavy for me to lift.

He arrived too late to get a seat.

Enough + noun / adj/adv + enough

Enough vem DEPOIS de adjetivos e advérbios, mas ANTES de nomes.

Is it warm enough? (adj + enough)

He didn't run fast enough. (adv + enough)

There isn't enough time. (enough + noun)

Have you got enough money? (enough + noun)

Erros comuns

Erros de posição — muito comuns para falantes de português:

It's hot enough.
Enough vem DEPOIS do adjetivo.

Enough vem ANTES do nome.
She's too much tired.

Too + adjetivo — sem 'much' (a menos que seja 'too much' com um nome).
